Improving Sector Governance

Improving Sector Governance

To build a global mechanism to mitigate worker and building safety risks, multi-brand and local key stakeholder consultation and collaboration is essential.

LABS is leveraging National Stakeholders Committees (NSC) to create sector-level change

LABS has set up National Stakeholder Committees (NSC) in each country of operation. The NSC guides the monitoring and institutionalizing of the program at country level. It helps identify and address challenges and opportunities while promoting the importance of safety for workers, and works with the government towards a harmonized, standard adaptation and incorporation of LABS into legislative and policy framework.

Working with program participants to strengthen the program

LABS works with partner organizations to create safer working conditions in their industry.

Working With Brand Participants

LABS works closely with the brand participants to accelerate the remediation and implementation of safety management systems in sourcing factories. In 2022, this resulted in increase in remediation rates on high-priority issues and the timely execution of LABS processes at factories. During the year, 44 factories successfully adopted LABS Standards into their operational processes, thereby graduating from the LABS program.

Two of the brand participants – GapInc and VF Corp. – have made the LABS program a mandatory sourcing requirement.

Working with associated firms to achieve operational excellence

LABS associated firms are the inspection, quality assurance and safety training firms that deliver LABS mandated processes across our operational countries.

Stakeholder engagement

LABS recognises that cannot achieve our goals alone. We value our partnerships, collaboration and external engagement. We collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the creation and implementation of our strategies and programs, including ongoing and continuous engagement with numerous external organizations to help guide and support key aspects of our strategy.

We have engaged with organisations including International Labour Organization (ILO), Better Factories Cambodia, Better Works Vietnam, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) and the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO), among others to create a sector-level transformation through joint action.
